Do It Scared
Because not doing it at all is worse.
You want something.
Maybe it’s big, maybe it’s small.
Maybe you want to:
Change careers.
Build something.
Write the things that are hard to write.
Create art.
Move somewhere new.
Make a decision you’ve been postponing for months (or maybe years).
But you’re not doing it because, if you’re at all like me, not knowing how to do something is terrifying. Like cellular, deep down, I’m-going-to-die terrifying.
So you’re waiting until you feel confident. Certain. Prepared. You’re waiting until you’re not scared.
But I can tell you from experience, feeling certain doesn’t really happen, preparation can get you stuck in an endless loop and confidence only comes because of action.
I’ve been noticing something magical:
Doing uncomfortable and scary things in real life is allowing me to be a better writer.
It’s helping me build the muscle that allows me to write scared. To tell the stories that are vulnerable and difficult to write.
If any of this sounds familiar, join me for a 90-minute workshop, on Doing It Scared, Saturday, August 29, from 10:30am to 12:00pm Pacific Time.
Two weeks ago, my essay on doing my first solo backpacking trip in the wilderness - while 100% scared - prompted dozens of vulnerable, beautiful responses. I am so grateful to every single one of you who shared part of yourself with me.
And I realized, you weren’t inspired or sharing because you wanted to backpack alone with bears and mountain lions too.
You were inspired or moved because you saw something of yourselves in my story:
One of you wrote:
“I’d forgotten to trust myself.” Ohmygosh, how I’ve been there. How I’m still there sometimes. And then, every time I do something I think I couldn’t do, something I’m really scared to do, I trust myself more.
In talking to all of you in the comments, I realized this wasn’t just my story, because everyone has something they’re scared of doing.
And that’s why I created a workshop so anyone who feels scared, who feels like they don’t trust themselves can:
Get clear on what your soul wants (as opposed to what fear is telling you).
Understand the stakes and see what staying stuck is really costing you.
Identify one meaningful next step.
Leave with a concrete plan and a date to take that step.
Join me if…
You’re tired of overthinking how and when to start.
You’re afraid of making the wrong choice so you make no choice.
You know you’ve been letting fear make too many of your decisions.
Maybe sit this one out if..
You want someone to tell you you’ll stop being scared.
You want to be motivated, but you’re not willing to take action - even if it’s small.
You’re not sure you’re ready to name what you really want.
There’s something you want to do, but you can’t move forward and maybe it’s making you feel:
Stuck
Restless
Regretful
Anxious
Disappointed in yourself
None of those feelings mean you’re incapable.
They often mean you’ve been trying to protect yourself.
This workshop is about not judging the part of you that’s been keeping you safe.
It’s about giving yourself the time and space to take a step towards doing something that scares you.
Because doing something scared is how you stop feeling stuck and start trusting yourself.
Join me: Saturday, August 29, from 10:30am to 12:00pm Pacific Time.
What we’ll do together
This is a live, interactive workshop where I’ll guide you through the process I’ve developed to help you uncover what you truly want, understand what’s keeping you stuck and identify an actionable step you can take towards doing it.
Through guided exercises, reflection prompts and feedback, you’ll move from overthinking and overwhelm to action.
You’ll create a personalized next-step plan so you leave knowing exactly what your next step is and when you’ll take it.
Before the workshop ends, you’ll choose a date for taking that next step, making it far more likely that you’ll follow through.
Bonus: A few days before your action date, I’ll personally check in to encourage you and help you keep the commitment you made to yourself.
Everything I’m proud of, I’ve done scared.
Moving to Costa Rica without a job, friends, or a place to live.
Leaving my first marriage with $108 and no safety net.
Backpacking alone through Desolation Wilderness at 53.
I was scared before I did all of these things. I was scared while I was doing them.
But here’s what I know: the more we do things scared, the more we teach ourselves we’re capable. The more we learn to trust ourselves.
This workshop is built on fifteen years of my own inner work as a yogi and meditator, and years of helping people uncover what makes them uniquely them through my branding work. I’ve created a practical process for helping you move from wanting something to taking the next step.

Includes the 90-minute live workshop, a personalized action plan, tools you can use again and again and a personal follow-up check-in before the date you commit to taking your next step.
What’s the cost of being scared and staying stuck?
What I Can Promise
I’m not going to promise your life will change in 90 minutes.
And I won’t promise you’re not going to feel scared when we’re done.
What I can promise is this:
If you show up honestly and do the work, you’ll leave with greater clarity and a concrete next step.
And if you take that step, you’ll start building confidence in yourself, the confidence that comes only from doing something even when you’re scared.
If there’s something you want,
But you haven’t been able to get it because you don’t feel ready, or you don’t know how to start, or you don’t know how it will turn out, I get it.
And I hope you’ll join me.
I don’t have all the answers, but I know one thing for certain:
We overcome fear by doing it scared.
I’d be honored to walk beside you for that first step.
xo,
Jocelyn
P.S. A few things you might be wondering...
What if I’m scared to share?
You’ll never be required to share anything you don’t want to.
What if I still don’t know what to do afterward?
You’ll leave knowing the most important thing: your next step.
What if I’ve tried before and it didn’t work?
Then you’re exactly who I created this workshop for. Waiting until you feel ready doesn’t work. This workshop offers a different way forward.
So here I am, giving you permission to do it scared.

Hi dear Jocelyn, love, love this message - you are writing from your wings. IT IS ALL SO GOOD!!
also...I see from your photo, that your wings are white...beautiful!! Mine are in amber tones.
Hugs from over here. xoxo
Sounds exciting, friend. When are you offering this?
