"So so so so so so beautiful."
I am Jocelyn Lovelle, a former jewelry designer and serial blogger whose 12-year-long blog co-written with my once-husband (as opposed to my now-husband) about being an expat in Costa Rica was suddenly lost in a hosting error. It's fine, I'm fine.
This weekly Substack letter to you, my beautifuls, is the place where I write about things that give me sometimes grateful, sometimes dismayed pause, and the excruciatingly beautiful and heartbreaking human experience of holding the knowledge that we are both darkness and light—all the time.
I'm not one of those people who started writing as a little kid, filling up pages of spiral notebooks.
I wanted to sing when I was little. Why I never did is a story for another day. Perhaps you'll read about it in your inbox one day.
But in my first year of college, I took a class on creative writing with a woman who loved it like she loved breathing.
And I was hooked.
I felt at home in the way I had when I used to sing, but I never felt able to make it my life.
Until now.
So here we are, I'm 50 and I am finally carving out a place to write and to create a community around it.
And I am so glad you're here.
This newsletter drops every Tuesday morning.

My deep appreciation for your support. That sounds cliche, but it is true. There are no words, even for a writer, for the deep gratitude I feel when someone supports my writing in a way that allows me to do more of it.
