Can I be subversive and say all 3 please?! ;) As for the jacket, I think it looks fabulous on you - and very on point with the glasses. But what matters more is how you feel in it. If this is a serious question, and not just fun engagement— I say this next part in the most *lovingly dangerous* way (you know what I mean)—I’d love to read a fourth piece on your impulse to check in with others about keeping the jacket, in addition to checking in with yourself. Because I do this too, less so now, but still, and I’m trying to do it even less. It could either be part of the stepping into your beauty piece, or a stand alone piece.

And maybe this is where you’re going with the singing one, but I’d love to read about you finding your voice. As a writer, and as a 50-something woman, which feels verrrrrrry topical and refreshing right now 😅 xoxoxo

Yes Monika! Be subversive and yay! Because I'm interested in all three too. ;)

And please always be lovingly dangerous here and with me! You are asking a question I often ask myself. And I love the idea of writing about this in what is now a series on why we dress the way we do. The posting here was partly fun, but I think there is an underlying current of seriousness that is worth exploring. It's less prevalent now than it used to be for me, but this engrained habit I have of asking for others' opinions instead of relying on my own, and seeking permission or approval/validation from others to look or be a certain way, or to confirm my choices. It's just like you said, "Because I do this too, less so now, but still, and I’m trying to do it even less." So worth a deep dive for me, and I'm glad you think so too!

And yes! This one is so interesting and personal for me. "I’d love to read about you finding your voice. As a writer, and as a 50-something woman, which feels verrrrrrry topical and refreshing right now." For me specifically, it's both an emotional/energetic thing, as well as a physical/medical thing. I have, over the years, developed extremely tight neck and throat muscles - the technical term is muscle tension dysphonia - when I speak, because of this tightness, I often push my voice instead of using my diaphragm and air and it makes my throat and voice hurt if I talk for too long. I'm working on this, but it's not just a physical thing, it's emotionally driven too, so, there is A LOT there to write about!

Oh and thank you for the vote on the jacket too. ;)

And thank you for showing up and being dangerous and asking a deep, potentially hard/vulnerable question. I am so grateful you did! xoxoxo

Oh wow, Jocelyn. Thank you for sharing about muscle tension dysphonia. What a challenge. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this and I’m sending you best wishes for your healing journey. I’d love, love, love to read an essay about this - and what a layered essay it will be in your hands.

I’m glad my other feedback resonated. Now you have an editorial calendar all tee’d up haha. And you can give an extra twirl in your fabulous jacket.

Also, can I just say that commenting here is so satisfying because you’re so welcoming and you give so much back. You make it easy to be vulnerable here in this warm space 💞

Oh wow right back. 💖Thank you so much for saying this, "commenting here is so satisfying because you’re so welcoming and you give so much back. You make it easy to be vulnerable here in this warm space" that is so so so very important to me and I feel so happy that I'm managing to do that, without any effort really, because you and others show up so fully. It's a full circle energy thing I think!

And yay! I do have an editorial calendar queued up, which feels soooo good. I'm often winging it, which is also fine, but a calendar feels nice too. So thank you for that :)

the MTD thing is so interesting bc I forget about it a lot, but also it's always present for me. I see myself sometimes in pictures or on video calls and the cords on my neck are just popping out and I'm happy or engaged, it's not stress related, necessarily, they're just always so tight. So I'm looking into physical therapies that can help me, but I think a whole lot of it has to do with my relationship with my parents and my mom in particular, where I did some serious work last week while visiting her. Stay tuned for that to show up here in my writing. 😉

So much gratitude and love to you! xoxo

“I think a whole lot of it has to do with my relationship with my parents and my mom in particular, where I did some serious work last week while visiting her.” This makes so much sense to me, Jocelyn. I relate, I relate. I look forward to reading when you’re ready to share ♥️

Jocelyn, I’m so impressed. I’ve been millimetering along on an essay - or book? - about my hard relationship with my mom for months. Can’t wait to read yours. (And if you need more time, take it. No pressure from me!) ♥️

Hi Love!

I would really like to hear more about moving into your own skin. This is a subject I’m trying to understand for myself as well and I’m curious what you have to say about it. Also, keep that fun jacket! It’s so you❤️

Oh goodie. That's an elusive one and I'm curious to see what comes up when I dive into it. Thank you for sharing and asking for more. And yes to the jacket! I was already pretty sure, but like Monika and I are chatting about, there was something in me that wanted a little more validation. I think it comes from knowing my husband thinks it's meh, and though he supports me in whatever I wear, there have been people in my life who don't and they'll say something mean, and I think that's still in the back of my head. I'd like to put that voice to pasture soon. :) xoxoxo

It sparks joy! Kind of like a writer’s cape at the Met or a playful dance at a Renaissance Festival. :)
